We're very new to camping having had a caravan before. What do people recommend to sleep on? It has to be something decent as we both suffer from bad backs.
If its car camping there are so many good ones to choose from. Google is a good place to start for reviews and give you a better idea what you might need.

Bought our two Thermarest Dream Time XL’s back in 2008, I did wince at the price, £98 each including delivery.
They have certainly stood the test of time, they did go EOL for a number of years, but have come back by popular demand, and no doubt improved if that could even be possible.
All I know is that they do what it says on the tin.
I found the Vango comfort 10 grande very comfortable however there was a fault with the seal around the valve on mine meaning it didn’t stay inflated. I also didn’t like the large valve with a flip top. If you added a few extra puffs you couldn’t get the lid on quick enough without the air escaping. Having said this I’ve had no choice but to sleep on it the last few nights and the foam in it must be of better quality than the Andes 10cm I have as even deflated it was far more comfortable than when the Andes leaked.
So for comfort def recommend but not sure on the valve.
I use a Zempire Monstamat 10cm SIM and a Quechua Air 70, and think the the Air 70 is an extravagance. It is great being at normal bed height, but otherwise it is quite heavy, annoying to pack and is only a subtle improvement to comfort. I still use it though!
