Hi there

We have a trip to Dorset again this year. I'm keen not to put the bikes in the caravan this year (3 bikes) and have been looking at rear mounted racks as I'm too old to get them on the roof. Any suggestions guys?

Cheers

David

Don’t know what outfit you have or how long your A frame is etc but have a look at the maxxraxx or the witter towball mounted ones, they fit into their own bracket bolted alongside the towball, so you can tow at the same time, however you will need to check your weight allowance

Thanks guys really helpful. It's hard to find accurate details about them. I'm nervous about towball mounted one's due to the weight. People rate the saris bones but it looks like it needs a bumper attachment. Confused.com!!!!

I like the Saris Bones. I’ve had one for a few years (picked one up on Gumtree) and like the ‘bumper attachment’ look and ease of use. Prefer it to the ‘Heath-Robinson scaffolding’ look of many others.

It attaches very securely to my car, and raises the bikes (almost completely) clear of the number plate and lights. Of course, that might not be the case for all vehicles.

I have a Witter towbar mounted bike rack advertised on here if you are interested. Requires a tow bar that can take a plate behind the ball not a swan neck one.

I have a Thule 3 bike towball mounted rack. I also had reservations about towball mounted racks, but as it wasn't a bolt on towball, it was my only option.
I have been all over the country with that rack and bikes on the back. It just sits there and does the job without any problems.
Just make sure you use a degreaser on the towball to remove any grease from it's previous use as the towball MUST be free of grease. Also make sure the screw adjuster is set so there is sufficient clamping force.
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending them.
