I currently use a cotton box air bed and love it. Sadly it has started to deflate and they are not available anywhere. So, I'm considering converting to a SIM. It would have to be a 10cm one after the airbed so I wondered what people would recommend. Don't want to spend more than £40 and Amazon have some decent ones but not having had one before I'm not sure of the pitfalls.

Help please!

Right, I'm currently looking at the Vango Comfort 10cm, any thoughts? Anyone??

I've never used anything thicker than 5cm. Vango SIMs seem to get good reviews in general.

If you can find a 10cm Vango SIM for under £40, please let us know!

My advice would be to go for the Grande. The extra width makes a lot of difference.

I can't, around £54 so slightly over budget. However I have found an Outwell Dreamcatcher 10cm for under 50 quid so going with that.

As we use on top of camp bed the single size is fine.

I thought SIMS were the work of the Devil until I camped at Haven's St Osyths site and bought one the next day. Haven are on my all time black for life list as having such an overpriced and horrible site.

I went to Go Outdoors wearing shorts with a big bunch of keys in my pocket, I bought the SIM upon which I could roll without feeling my keys. Have enjoyed it since.

The SIM that I couldn't feel my keys with was the:

My new Kampa Kip Hi-rise 10cm double just arrived. Inflated itself fully after around an hour and seems fairly comfortable just lying on it without a sleeping bag etc.

A lot of the the thick mats are too wide for our tent with 130cm inner divider zips closed, the kip being 128cm wide should just fit.

Previously we used a pair of outwell dream catcher 5cm single mats. These are fine if on your back or front but there isn't enough thickness if you're a side sleeper so they can be a little uncomfortable as some points can bottom out and even adding a few breaths doesn't help as it doesn't hold the extra pressure overnight. I've been fine with them but the OH has complained of aches and pains on waking up hence the thicker mat to restore marital bliss.

If I lie on my side on the kip, I can still press the mat 2-3cm under the low points (where it's shaped to fit me) so unlikely we'll bottom out the mat. Look forward to testing propery in a couple of weeks.

We also have a go outdoors 4cm double that is used in the kids pod, they have clever beds on top and I find that 4cm is also too thin to support side sleepers properly. We use the SIM as the Clever bed insualtion isn't that good and half the time at least one ends up out of the bed so good floor insulation key to youngsters that sleep through.

I think it depends you you sleep.

Well, the dreamcatchers have arrived, been inflated and I had a little lay on them, albeit on the living room floor! Took quite a while to inflate the first time but I did as instructed in the above video and I've left them inflated overnight. Will have a go at putting them away tomorrow and then try inflating again.

The verdict, I think they're gonna be just fine!
