Decided to upgrade the camp cooking facility. Gone from hob and grill to a Campchef Outdoor Oven.

The other half saw a Kampa one in a local retailer and feel in love with it. One point to note is that they are tall. We took the top of the camp kitchen off and discovered the handles on the sides of the cooker were fractionally too wide to allow the cooker to stand on the lower shelf. A couple of blocks of wood saw the handles clear the sides.

It had a patio gas regulator on, do that was swapped for a propane regulator. The instructions say it is propane only. Connection was made to the swapped cylinder and with trepidation the ignition was engaged.

To my surprise the oven roared into life with a purr of a well balanced burner. Heat gathered slowly but surely. The burners in top also lit easily.

New these ovens cost over £200, but she who must be obeyed got this from Facebook marketplace for £70.....

Will update you all later once we have cooked a few meals in it....

Just remember, if it is older than yours, smaller than yours but next to yours, there is probably no credit owing on it...

Congratulations and well done SWMBO. I’ve wanted one of those for years but size / cost put me off. Looking forward to hearing how well the oven works.

We acquired a Kampa Roast Master oven for this years 2 1/2 week camping trip to France, our 'Head Chef' owns a restaurant and he was very impressed with it. We never suffer poor quality 'camp food' even when it's just 'pot' cooking, 'cos we have a great cook, but the oven extended the menu a treat, fresh made Lasagne, Pizza and roast veggies being just an example. And the oven was a boon for keeping things warm when other stuff was being cooked on the hobs, managed a mega Full English Breakfast for 6 most days, all served at the same time, that's a challenge on just a two burner hob if you like everything hot!

Sat on top of a normal camp kitchen stand it may put the hobs a bit too high for some shorter people to use comfortably, but we're all 6ft'ers and had no difficulties, the Kampa has it's own wind shields built in, so you could stand it on any suitable table top, you don't need the shelter of a normal kitchen stand. Far more of a comment than a complaint, we did find the heat in the oven slightly uneven (but that could have been from the strong winds in our semi/outdoor kitchen!), but easily rectified by simply turning the item cooking occasionally.

The Kampa will run on either Propane or Butane (or a mix I guess!), it's just down to the regulator (different pressures) that matches the gas/cylinder. I suspect the Campchef specified 'Propane only' is due only to the regulator supplied, not the inability of the oven itself to use Butane. Can't think of a camping/caravan gas appliance that is restricted to only Propane per se, it's all down to the regulator being matched to the gas.

Our newly acquired Kampa Oven was a total success, deemed worth every penny of the £198 it cost. The hob burners themselves seemed superior (in heat) to many of the other cooking hobs we've used over the years (even worked in the midst of Storm Miguel that battered us!), and the oven did everything an oven should do, so we were very happy, well fed campers.

If the purse can stretch to the price, I highly recommend the Kampa oven at least, don't see why any other quality brand oven should be any less satisfactory.
