Hello everyone,
we were away in our caravan for 10 nights not long ago,and after being on charge on an electric hook-up for duration, when I disconnected from the mains supply the battery was flat.It would not even throw the voltage meter needle over.Decision made, next season,a new leisure battery. This is where you good folks come in,the one taken off the van was a 110Ah,I was going to replace it with the same AH.but I would like your recommendations for the the best make to buy. Thanks.Pa Clampett.
Was all the 12 volt equipment working before you disconnected the mains? It seems strange that the battery was completely flat, as even a completely knackered battery will usually retain some charge for a short while, even if less than an hour. If all the equipment was working while connected to EHU, I would suspect a break in the connection between the battery and the charger. Maybe a blown fuse or a wire disconnected. The battery has probably had it, but if you do have a charging problem, any new one will go the same way unless you fix it.
Test whether the charger is actually charging the battery by putting a voltmeter across the battery terminals with the battery connected to the caravan electrics but the mains turned off. Then switch on the mains and watch if the voltmeter registers it. Don't simply rely on the caravan's voltmeter, use an independent one.
------------- Best Regards,
Colin
