Can anyone help please ?I have a 2020 Coachman vip 565, had many Coachman vans in the past . Love this van BUT , the radio will not switch off . It obviously wasn't checked when dispatched from factory.I have posted on another web site , and several people have suggested swapping the red and yellow wires over , as one is a direct feed . I tried this , but to no avail . Only way I can get radio to switch off is to remove the front display panel, whilst this is not the end of the world , it sometimes is a pain remembering to do it each time . Any suggestions gratefully received . Thanks in anticipation

Further to my post re, Coachman radio , I have changed the original radio to a DAB unit with CD player . I have fitted another Pioneer , as fitted originally , I still have same not switching off fault , so obviously not a fault in actual radio

We had a 2018 Coachman VIP and it took a bit of searching the CD/Radio booklet, but there is an off button.

pee jay just for future reference there is a post edit button for use up to two hours after posting.

Car radios have two feeds, on permanent 12v and one switched from the ignition. Radios are built to be wired this way. From the factory they are in this mode because you do not turn off the radio when leaving the car, you just turn the key off and the radio goes off. It is possible to turn them off I have the same one but sorry dont know how. Do a search online 'turn off pioneer model xx xxxx' you should find an answer.

Our Coachman is a 2004 model which the original radio/CD player is a SONY brand but does exactly the same. I asked my local auto electrician about this and apparently the audio unit (the same as 12v ones fitted in cars) has a built in memory to store all the preset radio channels but there is an ON/OFF switch on the front facia. For some reason, when I connect up the leisure battery the radio automatically switches ON and have to remember to turn it off otherwise left switched ON could drain the battery. The auto electrician said that he could install an isolation switch between the radio and the power source if required but I declined because I take my leisure battery home anyway and put it on charge via a smart charger till the next time we go away so the radio signal is likely to differ anyway.
However, the best solution is to jot down the radio/CD model number and then do a search online for the instruction manual (if you don't have the original to hand) and try to obtain some information that way or obtain further advice from a technician and ask about an intermediate isolation switch to be installed.

I have a coachman and have had the same problem.

I think you press and hold the button to switch the radio off.

Sorry Pee Jay, just checked our 2018 Coachman, and it is a Pioneer unit and not a Sony that we had in our 2010 Coachman.

Just found this if it is of help searching for "switch off sony car radio"

Press the OFF button on the car stereo to display the clock. Press and hold the SELECT button for two seconds. After the Setup display appears, press the SELECT button repeatedly until DEMO appears. Rotate the CONTROL dial to select either DEMO-ON or DEMO-OFF.23 Jul 2019

Worth a try.

Pee Jay, as you've mentioned that you changed the unit, would you post the exact model number fitted so I can consider this for you? As you're aware, the two 12v supplies (one switched and one permanent) are all that are required to power the unit, so I really can't see any issue unique with it being a Coachman van, and I wonder if your query just relates to the brand/design of unit fitted. My Pioneer for example (that I fitted myself), doesn't fully power off and one could get the impression its still on. It can only be put into a sleep mode by pressing and holding the source button down until the display dims.

Consider this; in a car the ignition would turn off the switched live supply and the radio would then turn fully 'off' due to loss of 12v, but in the caravan, this supply is present all the time the 12v circuit is on, therefore the radio will remain 'on', as if the cars ignition were left permanently on.

Do you have a master 12volt switch on your main control panel, perhaps the on with a master light switch and pump switch on if you have one.
