We have just purchased a 2006 motorhome and are looking for a sat nav. There are so many to choose from so we wondered if any of you could recommend a good one. TIA
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
This question comes up fairly often. If you search for sat nav on these forums you will find lots of previous posts that may help you. Make sure you get a version that allows you to input unit length etc.
I have just purchased a Tomtom go camper and it works a treat.
Free lifetime maps, camera and traffic information. Via inbuilt SIM
I purchased it direct from Tomtom and they gave me a 25% discount and a free carry case which worked out cheaper than anywhere in the uk, ie Currys, halfords, amazon etc.
I use a hgv sat nav, plenty on eBay, you can put in all details such as length hight axle and weight,
------------- its easy enough to be pleasant when the world rolls along like a song.but a man is worth while if he can smile when every thing goes f------ wrong.
I logged onto my Tomtom account and went on the chat support page and asked what was the upgrade path from my old Tomtom unit,
Chatted to someone and they offered me an upgrade with the 25% discount.
Ive got a tom tom truck one, you can use Tom Tom mydrive to plan routes, it lets you put in the length of the outfit and it will avoid single track roads, length and height , makes sure you avoid certain roads. Always good to check against google maps too. I bought it with lifetime maps too, works great, never been stuck and it works in France too.

Tomtom gave me a free case but it’s for the 5inch and not 6inch model, hence to small!
Taking their time sorting it out , been about 3 weeks now, we shall see!
I had a Tom Tom Camper, which was great and never got us into any difficult situations or let us down, until it crashed and wouldn’t restart. It worked for about 4 years until it didn’t!
To replace it we got a Garmin Camper about a year ago, which also works well and has not let us down although I preferred the Tom Tom as I felt the display at junctions was clearer and the arrival time calculatIons more accurate. In saying that both are/were good and I’m still happy with the Garmin.
As a cheaper option you could look at some of the Smartphone apps available. Many have free trial periods and allow you to download maps to save on data. I know you won’t be able to set it up as a Motorhome (maybe some do? Someone more knowledgeable than me will be able to say) but a quick check of the route should give you enough piece of mind to see whether it’s suitable. I use a Tom Tom app sometimes and it appears to work well, although I prefer the satnav.
