For those who use Android phones...I've recently put together an app to work out your electrical usage when on electrical hookup:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=clevermethods.com.ehucalc

No cost (although I will add some ads at some point). Be good to get some feedback!

Cheers all!

Thanks for this stubbo; having been caught out abroad in recent years (not 2020 oddly enough ) I'm looking forward to trying this out.

Best regards.

I've downloaded the app. Will be adding some devices then have 'play' and hopefully give some feedback.

I may do depending on the success/feedback of the Android version - Ive a bit more of a learning curve where iOS is concerned.

If not I could probably launch a web version (accessed via phone web browser) that would work on any device.

With a background as an electrical engineer, I don't actually need an app to work out loads, but potentially I can see it's value to others as it's a fairly frequent question on this forum, so well done on that score.

There are a couple of points that confuse me with the app, why do users need any kind of 'account', and why would you need internet access to use app? The number crunching to obtain values or conversions is very basic arithmetic indeed that could be done internally, neither is internal data storage of personal set ups likely to be a problem, and for a great many campsites where this app would be useful, there is no or very poor mobile signal coverage and therefore no internet access, does this render app unusable in those circumstances?

My cynical nature makes me wonder are you data harvesting with your account/internet access requirement, but for what possible legitimate use is certainly beyond me. Personally I avoid apps that require sign ups/interconnectivity when I can see no need/benefit from it. Every unnecessary internet link is just another weakness in protecting the security of your phone and personal data.

Sorry if I'm potentially erroneously reading anything 'sinister' into a legitimate need or use, but it's far from clear to me why! Maybe more clarity in your app description would allay concerns.

To answer your questions openly:

1. I'm a hobbyist and not a developer, so am using a low-code platform to create the app which is a web app surfaced via a mobile device. This is why the internet access.
2. The account is to support store of your devices (so it's not just a single device basic calculator which I could with my limited technical capability work out and also why there is a static "offline" page that gives the details of doing that) but something you can add all devices and play around with turning different devices on and off. Going back to point 1...if I was a proficient app developer I could do that natively on the phone's storage, but as Im not and needing to use a web app low code tool to build it out, the account details are required to support this devices list per user.

Fundamentally as I say, it's because it's a web app rather than a native mobile device.

To demonstrate, you can register for the account with a fake email address (a.b at c.co.uk as an example) and with the username MickeyMouse and it's no problem - frankly the app wont make me any money unless I offer an ad-free paid version. I made it more to test out the Web App platform and the process of publishing to the Android store for consideration on another project I have in mind (not camping related).

Thanks for the reply, that all makes a lot of sense.

Sorry if any aspersions cast in your direction, but the 3rd party involvement explains the 'unnecessary' aspects!
