For the U.K. a small SelfSat flat antenna will do the job, very easy to set up and cheap to buy.

The flat ones and indoor ones really dont work.

I'd be looking for a mast height of 2 to 2.5 metres to clear obstructions
like caravans! probably engineer a sectional one one from 25mm ali tube.

There is actually no such thing as a digital aerial, it is a term dreamt up by retailers to increase sales. A decent high gain aerial is all you need but reception is limited by the signal strength in the particular area.

That combination has never failed me.

Sounds like a good system whilst within the UK but won't provide english TV once across the channel.

The O.P. hasn't said where he wants to receive TV.
