Do the indoor TV power aerials really work on camp sites? If so which is the best to go for as my standard indoor TV aerial has failed pick up on the last two camp sites is it worth investing on one.

We use satellite for UK TV, which works every time, even when we are down on the Cote D Azur.

For the U.K. a small SelfSat flat antenna will do the job, very easy to set up and cheap to buy.

You just need to add a Freesat or FTA satellite receiver, like the SAB Titan Micro, or have a TV that has a satellite tuner.

Or....a digital aerial on a pole clamped to your A-frame.

(maybe not of your tent hasn't an A-frame. . But if dont want to cart fancy bits of kit either).

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Indoor aerials don't have the direction or gain capability of an outdoor one but the main problem is likely to be that you are in a metal box with limited areas where the signal can even get to it.

You msay be ok if you are sitting near a repeater station but then you could probably get a picture on a piece of wet string there anyway.

Dave.

I agree entirely with both replies.

For reception wherever you choose to go, Satellite (Freesat) is the best solution.

Having said that, remember that most satellites are about 24000 miles away so aiming the dish accurately at the right satellite will be your biggest problem initially.

But don’t despair, read up on the subject and when you have done it once, it gets easier and easier.

Good luck!       Vin Blanc

Its coming to something when the default way of watching a bit of telly whilst camping has to involve carting receivers, satellite boxes, and antennas.
If the guy is in a tent, where is he going to set up all this gear?

For good reception you need a small tripod, pole and a mini log periodical aerial.
Something like:

The flat ones and indoor ones really dont work.

I'd be looking for a mast height of 2 to 2.5 metres to clear obstructions
like caravans! probably engineer a sectional one one from 25mm ali tube.

or https://www.amazon.co.uk/Labgear-LPCT-Compact-Periodic-Aerial/dp/B00LFMVQN2/ref=sr........

and instead of the tripod https://www.amazon.co.uk/Parkland%C2%AE-Ground-Rotary-Washing-Parasol/dp/B00BHL794........

There is actually no such thing as a digital aerial, it is a term dreamt up by retailers to increase sales. A decent high gain aerial is all you need but reception is limited by the signal strength in the particular area.

I use a log periodic on a pole clipped to the front hand grip. I also use a phone app (Freepoint UK) which shows the strongest signal in the area, the compass direction and the polarity, vertical or horizontal.

That combination has never failed me.

Figure of speech, mate. I meant a 'modern' type aerial as stuck on poles, hitherto pointed out.

Sounds like a good system whilst within the UK but won't provide english TV once across the channel.

The O.P. hasn't said where he wants to receive TV.

Given hes asked about 'set top box aerials', i cant see him expecting Corrie from this in the Alps.

Mind reading not being among my small list of skills, I’m inclined not to offer any further help finding a solution to the OP’s problem.
