we have aquired a elderly abi jubilee diplomat caravan, and surpringlyly most systems work*, one item we are missing for next season is a leisure battery so we can camp off grid with lights and running water etc**.
now in the gas locker in the front is 2 cables with croc clips, one to car and one into caravan, im not too happy with a battery and gas in the same location esp with croc clips, it is prety vented in there but would a bettery box and properly termiations mitigate the risk of both in the locker or would it be better to locate the battery under one of the seats ? i also would like when off grid to top it up with a solar panel when off grid.
any thoughts on co location of gas and battery or relocating the battery ?
any guides on suplimenting battery with solar?
any one else had one that can offer any guidance on ant issued for thsio model its the first one so finding an awning has been challenging due to lack of height and profile.
any one got an origonal intructions for the electrics ? i have worked most of it out but would like a cct diageram for confidence.

( not fully converted from tents yet and not sure if i ever will tbc)
For the battery location, I would certainly not have it in the same locker as the gas cylinders.
If you can’t create a dedicated battery locker, then I guess placing the battery under the seating would be the only solution, although I would not be using a regular SLA leisure battery, better to use a AGM leisure battery or better still a LiFeP04 drop in replacement leisure battery, on balance though the AGM would be the best compromise.
For any type of battery I would use a plastic battery box that is a snug fit to the battery, I use a Norco battery box for my 120Ah SLA leisure battery, the battery box just adds another layer of safety.
I'm not sure I'd like a battery and gas in the same locker, but if you could construct a battery box within the locker but sealed from the rest of it you should be fine. It would need to be vented from near the top to the outside though. Alternatively you could put the battery in its own box inside one of the under-bed lockers, but again it should be vented outside.
You should be able to find a full awning that will fit, but a porch will be a problem if you don't have the height. I've been in that situation.
