Please help anyone. we have just come back from or first camping trip. It hs take a wee while for us to get the gear together so we were really excited. Im excitement has turned sour as i could not in any way or fasion light this blessed stove. Yes my fault as i should have tested it first but I didnt. We had to make do with cold snacks and heading off to the chippy. it poured down for most of our time there too but i really do not want this to put us off. We are due to go the the Stirlingshire meet and would love to go but if I cannpt get this cooker to light we may not be able to go. Has anyone got any tips on lighting this stove please or am I just going to have to get rid of it. . . .. Help please. I ensured that it was pumped at least 40 times but could not really hear the fuel getting throught when trying to light it. What was i doing wrong.
Pump stove about 30/40 times, lift the brass lever to the up position, open black dial knob and light, make sure only the main cooking ring is open(one on the right)... If this doersn't work take the generator out and open the black dial knob as again to see if any fuel comes out,you should be able to hear it hiss if not then the tube may be blocked. You can service it yourself or take it to a shop that sells them. Do you run a can of coleman special fuel through it from time to time? this helps keep the generator tube stay free from carbon debris and soot ect. I hope that helps you...
good luck n happy camping..

I use the coleman stove and they can be tricky to light if you are not used to them. My girlfriend always gets me to light it.
If you have primed it properly (and it is working properly) when you turn the main black control knob you should hear a sound like Darth Veda breathing (sorry Star Wars Fans if I spell his name incorrectly), you should also see a haze of gas around the burner.
Was the left hand ring off when you were pumping the stove, it's control knob is on the left hand side, a big metal butterfly. Both knobs need to be off to prime the generator. The lighting lever is a small bent piece of wire metal above and to the left of the main black control knob, this needs to be pointing up to light for a minute until the flame settles down and burns blue when you turn it pointing down.
If you have got enough pressure in the generator it should be quite hard to pump the final air into the tank, but if you cant hear Darth when you open the main control knob there is a problem. What is hard to say.
For safety reasons always check cooking equipment outside.
Are you sure that you are pressurising the fuel tank properly? To pump pressure into it you have to turn the pump knob one turn to the left, place your thumb over the hole in the end and give it 30 full stroke pumps, push pump knob fully in and turn fully to the right. The tank should now be pressurised.
First test that there is pressure in the tank - open the filler cap very slowly and a very audiable hiss should be heard. If not tank is not pressurising.
Now check that the generator tube (the pipe from the fuel tank) is not blocked by opening the big black knob, be careful because fuel should come out of the tube in a fine spray. If not, and the tank is definitely holding pressure, then the tube is blocked.
Could not have put it better myself Breezy. I also remember there was a thread about the amout of petrol that should be in the tank. I will trawl the archives.
Thanks for all of your information. I had a friend who if familiar with these stoves and he came along and tested it for me. It would appear that as I had not completely filled the tank with fuel it required more pumping. I thought that I had pumped it enough as it was hard to do. I feel such an idiot. . . . I now need to pluck up the courage to try it for myself and I must say that I am a bit wary about it as all I could get was a big yellow flame and soot. Don't fancy doing this in my home but I don't have a garden to try it in. Hmph! looks like I am just going to bite the bullet . . .
Thanks again guys and I have taken note of all of your tips.
