Hi
I am new to this site,
Hello all,I have just bought a Coleman gladiator stove, i want to hook up to a large propane bottle.
Can anyone tell me what I need please?
I have the angled propane regulator that came with the stove, that is all!!
I need to buy propane bottle, maybe regulator for bottle??
Tube or special connector hose
Please help
Thanks Alf
I would think the stove would operate at 37mBar pressure (check this in the product specs) and as such all you'll need is the appropriate regulator that screws to a standard industrial propane bottle and has an 8mm outlet to connect up to some low pressure gas hose - of the type that usually comes with a camping stove. This can be bought for around a couple of quid a metre, and keep the length to 1.5m (2.0m max) or less as 37mBar is a low pressure system.
The price is outrageous. In hindsight I think you probably should have bought a different brand of stove that had a bog-standard gas-hose connector fitted to it, rather than a bespoke fitting for their 1lb propane bottles. If it's unused can you return it to the retailer?
Wow? Not sure that's the greatest of design ideas - pump full bottle pressure (7Bar at room temperature?) into a lightweight stove and regulate it down to (what I assume is) 37Mbar or thereabouts for use right next to the naked flame? Personal choice of course, but I'd definitely be looking at getting something else.
I've a military stove that operates at 1bar (hose fed from a standard propane bottle at 5m distance), and it receives enough pressure to generate enough heat to fabricate horseshoes. It'll boil three gallons of water in minutes.
Another way if you want to keep the stove. use your regulator that comes with the stove, or purchase another, they are about £20 online. Using a pipe cutter, cut it in the middle, then simply attach it to a hose and propane regulator. I double clipped my pipe at the stove end to ensure its safe. This way, you can control the flow of gas via the bottle valve and the front of the stove. This stops it overcooking everything as it burns really hot and doesn't seem to turn down if used as it comes.
also means you can move the gas bottle away from the side of the stove, like NewToTenting stated above about it not being the best place for the gas bottle.
Mine has been set up like that for over a year now and works great. I steered clear of the cable online as it is made for American standard bottles which apparently have a different thread to UK ones. It didn't seem safe enough reading all the info on it. I may be wrong but that's where my research took me.
