We've recently changed our car to a much smaller one going from a discovery to a mini countryman with rails on the sides and wondering if the roof bags are any good and do you still need the bars across the car for roof bags like you do with a roof box or can they just go on the rails.
Thanks
Can’t speak from experience but there are plenty of YouTube videos showing bags being assembled. The only video I dipped into showed loading both options - between side rails only or over cross bars. The main benefits (compared to a box) seem to be less weight, easier to manoeuvre into place & less storage space when they’re not needed.
IVE HAD A hANDI HOLD ALL ROOF BAG FOR 10 YR , ITS STILL LIKE NEW GREAT BIT OF KIT WOULD HIGHLY RECOMEND , AND THE BENIFITS IS WHEN YOU GET TO SITE YOU CAN TAKE IT OFF AND IT FITS INTO SMALL HOLD ALL SO DOESNT TAKE HARDLY ANY ROOM UP

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
