Hi iank01,   I grew up and worked in Worcester, (including Upton upon Severn Telephone Exchange).

Left the UK late 60’s to work abroad. - Small world!

Hi iank01, that’s interesting, I joined Siemens in Pretoria, heading up the tel. exchange Power planning Dept. for Siemens exchanges throughout southern Africa.

Left after several years and moved (at the request of my French wife at that time) to her home island of Corsica.

That wasn’t the end of my travels but not wanting to bore people even further, suffice to say that I eventually retired and moved to Hampshire about 30 years ago.

In the seventies a load of British telecoms engineers were paid a load of dosh to move to SA to upgrade the telephone exchanges. I think they got 6 weeks leave a year and a huge bonus when contract finished.

Apologies to OP for temporary hijacking of thread.

Hi once again Nicola. Just an afterthought re; TV in your caravan.

I have tried to advise you how to receive Freeview TV throughout the UK however, should you ever want to venture across the channel to France, please be aware that Freeview is unobtainable outside the UK.

You would need a Satellite dish and receiver to pick up the “Freesat” channels.

Satellite is a totally different ballgame altogether and to give you some idea of what would be involved, take a look at the article I wrote for UKCampsite some years ago.

Simply Google “The Art of Aiming a Satellite Dish” – by me!

I remember reading the article and at the time it was a great help as we had a manual dish. After getting soaked on several occasions we bought a Satfi dome which worked okay as far down as Valencia in Spain, but obviously on Sky. Now have the Oyster all singing and dancing unit. Press a button and it is all automatic. LOL!

Alas, my mobile satellite days are long gone.

Modern technology has made everything far too easy for you youngsters these days!   Lol.

Afterthought - At a price of course.
