I tried to order some using click and collect via B&Q, to pay using a credit card or PayPal etc., and it did not ask for proof of age.
The minimum age for a credit card is normally 18, therefore, some stores may accept that as proof of age for items such as charcoal, however, I could be wrong.
My advice would be to get one of those proof of age cards as soon as you can, or get a provisional licence if you have not already passed your driving test. A cocktail bar that I frequent is over 21s only, and I often see driving licences being used by the punters as proof of age.
