I’ve just bought a Status 570 Ariel which comes with VP5 amplifier. As I have Caravelair everything is there for me to just slot it in apart from the electrics. In the wardrobe I have a standard uk 3 pin socket but wondering if anyone else uses the vp5 with 12v power adapter and if they can point me to the product they use. Vision Plus used to sell one but I notice they’ve stopped doing that now and only point you to wiring it into the 12volt supply.
------------- I own a caravan, that makes me a grown up, right?
The 13A sockets are only live when on EHU> Some folks use a 12volt telly and in our case, the built in radio is on 12 volt but gets it's signal from teh tv aerial.
It makes a lot of sense to just supply the amplifier from the 12 volt rather than a 12 volt adaptor plugged into a 13A socket.
Make sure you switch the amplifier off when you go home because even though its only a small amount of power it will eventually run your battery flat.
Hi
it was worth the upgrade for me as I only had a magnetic one that I had to stick on a baking tray and shove out of the roof vent. The Caravelair has an Ariel post in place and all the wiring, just no Ariel, so it should be just a case of replace the post with the 570 and wire it up.
I got mine off EBay from a company in Grimsby for £99 including postage, I’ve not installed it yet though. That’s a next weekend job.

Thanks for the reply. I managed to speak to someone at Vision Plus that gave me the spec 240V AC to 12V DC regulated transformer, any output over 200Ma will be fine and the jack plug needs to be a 2.5mm female inner and a 5.5mm outer (the inner core is positive and the outer core is negative). Which I’ve managed to source from TLC for £5. The dealer quoted me £200 plus the cost of the Ariel to install, So being a tight wad I wasn’t going to pay that. The parts cost £99 for the v570 and vp5 and £5 for the PSU, I have a couple F connectors and UHF fly lead floating around the house. So hopefully should only take an Hour or so to fit.

I have the previous model aerial but it has the older amplifier too. I think I may try to get my hands on a new cheap new v5 amplifier- keep my old aerial and see how that works ??
I just like the idea of an indicator telling you which way to point the aerial instead of using the phone app.
Hi NoviceNorris - If you have a smartphone there is an app available free called “Antenna Aligner’. I’m using it on an iphone and its very good. It shows you the nearest Transmitters, channel numbers and whether it’s Horizontal or Vertically polarised. It will show you a list of the nearest Transmitters and estimated signal strength at your location based on the internal compass or if you wish you can configure it to use postcode or co-ordinates.
