My friends' situation was using it to give them extra seconds to escape the van, neither being agile enough to get through the window. What I should have said is that we're all motorsport volunteers and have annual fire training and have had to deal with vehicle fires/rescues in remote locations. I regard these as an additional, easy to use weapon to fight fire should the worst happen and rather like having a seat belt cutter and glass smasher by your car seat.
