quiet enough to sleep through - oil radiator

quick to heat up - 2 kw fan heater

halogen heater - bloody useless! unless you sat practically on top of it

the first 2 can be used on any 10 amp supply and above, but make sure you turn off if you need to boil your kettle

Lots of threads on heaters, and lots of suggestions, if you search the forums. (Try the others too, not just Equipment.)
Fan noisy. Oil filled radiator quiet.

We use a small convector heater. It's thermostatically controlled, warms up quite quickly, and very reasonably priced. In our caravan we only need it on the 1kw setting and it gets quite toasty quickly and switches off. It's safe to leave on all night if necessary too. And it's silent except for the occasional click of the thermostat. If we didn't have that we would use an oil-filled radiator but they are a little more expensive.

We have tried small electric fan heater and an oil filled heater when on EHU.
We prefer to use the oil filled heater as it is silent but it does take longer to warm up and when it's very cold we leave it on all night.

Just to add to the infrared heater lobby.

A couple of items, hopefully of interest, from SunSwitch.

Heater- (£201.60 incVAT) https://www.sunswitch.net/outdoor-heaters-all-fully-weatherproof-c9/heliosa-11-1-5kw-compact-electric-infrared-heater-p122

Interesting comment in the description about being fully weatherproof and able to heat an outdoor area 3×4m. When used indoors the interior surfaces are heated by the radiated heat causing convective heating.

SunSwitch Controller- (£147.12 incVAT) https://www.sunswitch.net/accessories-infrared-lamps-controllers-and-more-c10/heater-controllers-c30/sunswitch-cc1-2-energy-saving-comfort-controller-p42

The Switch controller is recommended, the unit will run at Max without it. This could be too much for a smaller area or just not needed. It will allow having adequate heating at a lower power consumption.

These are commercial products, the price reflects this. The heater will come with a Certificate of Safety (no “bad” light emitted from unit), there are cheap ones out there that do not! They have to be wired, a DIYer should be OK with supplying suitable cable and fit, I told my insurance company what I had done, they were fine with it. Others may wish have an electrician do the work and send the receipt of work to their Insurance company.

What may be of importance to some, is that the heaters are totally silent in use like the oil and air convector heaters.

There are many horribly cheap and inefficient units out there that have given a bad memory to those that tried them. This may be why this type of heating is overlooked.

I do not have any vested interest in or work for Sun Switch or associated companies.

Dan.

Wow! That seems an incredibly expensive option to me. Our convector heater cost us under £20 and it works perfectly. We have had it about 6 years now and it's like new.

I used fan heaters no more than 2kW output with thermostatic control when I was a tenter.

I was usually so tired by the time I went to bed the noise did not bother me.

Just needed to put it in a safe place so that it could not be knocked over by the dog; and I had one that had a trip safety device so the power went off if it was tipped over.

When we had a TT we use a convector heater with a fan. That was a few years ago not you have the Kampa Diddy Portable Heater well worth a look.

Owestry_ED - I concur with this post.

During my 2 Camping outings last year I used a oil filled heater, it is a 2KWh one, but I would just have it on 1 setting, think is 750W or 1000w, so within the rating of the campsite.

I would leave on all night, and the tent be nice a cosy through the night.

I find this the perfect set up and less risk, less noise than fan heater.

Also I'm new to camping and I want to kind of have a glamping feel to camping than to be cold, just how I enjoy the experience

Have you thought of a Diesel Heater? They're pretty cheap on Amazon / Ebay these days and whack out a lot of heat on a 12v Supply.

We have one of these in the van.......
DeLonghi Dragon 4 2kW Oil Filled Radiator 8 Fin with Digital Display & Increased Radiant Surface. (google is your friend)

Think we paid around £80-90 we leave it on all night in the chillier months. We are very Nesh to say the least.

Running cost are around 30p per hour tho, be warned. Can soon pop up the electric price on site. However we need to stay warm. Else it takes the fun out of caravanning.

We use one of these in the awning When sat on an evening. NOT recommended if ankle biters are around tho...Kampa Glow 2 Parabolic Heater..Again.(google is your friend)
