Agreed.
There are (or have been?) "extra wide" ones available, but few and far between, and still not wide enough to take the SIM width.
I have two of those very small camping-specific pillows, stuffed as one in a pillow-case, and lay that within the seat.
As it's sat ON the SIM, it can tip up (back), or fall closed when not in use (depending on the "balance" of the pillow position), or when getting into bed/into position, and you often have to fidget to get in position, but once there, it works (very) well and serves it's purpose, whether laid out with just the head/neck supported, or sat more upright.
I couldn't justify the cost of the job-specific sleeve thing you can get to turn the Exped SIM into a chair, and it just didn't seem practical enough for my minimal needs, as I don't sit/lay in bed reading very often, but this cheapo seat option was worth the punt for me... and it proved to be a good compromise.
Muckerette got hers (a bit too narrow for my liking) for the bargain price of £3 in a GO sale!
I wasn't interested initially, but after trying hers out, I opted for a less flowery design(!) and slightly wider option for the princely sum of £12 if I recall.
Even for short-term/little use items, they are an absolute bargain, and very much worth having in the kit.
