Anyone ever used a 240v to 12v convertor / charger ? There are some shocking products on amazon reading some of the reviews even amazon recommended ones.

Any recommendations ?

I have a smart charger from Halfords which is very good as it conditions the battery. Other makes are available. Machine Mart do them too. I believe CTEK are a good make too,Halfords sell them too. I don't work for them!

A vote for CTEK here. Specifically I have the MXS 5.0 and works well either as a charger, maintainer and reconditioner. Also has an AGM/Leisure setting.

It was a charger for my 12/24v fridge i was after to run it off the mains. sorted now thanks to gusy at MGD. I had a ctelk mxs 5 it killed off 3 batteries ! my friend had 2 that both packed up within 6 months. Not sure if ctek dont have QA issues now. I have since moved over to NOCO chargers.

I have a 5amp Ctek charger that I use to maintain the starter battery on my car and van. It's okay. I watched a couple of people take them apart and then compare them to the NOCO ones and personally, I think the NOCO ones look much better quality.

If it's for charging your leisure batteries (we're having to guess here) then I fitted a Victron Bluesmart to our van which is very good. Bluetooth as well so you can keep a record of your charges.

My thoughts exactly.
It sounds as though you may be using the wrong thing for this job. A charger is for re-charging a battery.
To run your fridge on 12 volts from a mains socket, you require a 240 to 12 volt adaptor.
I bought one for my awning pump and tyre pump from ebay.
This type of thing but you need to ensure it supplies sufficient current for your fridge.
