To the OP: never tried a ready bed but I suspect it might be too high for your pop-top. Have you thought about a Duvalay? Personally, I'd just use a SIM to fit plus a duvet. I bet she loves it up there!

Thanks for that Lidds, I hadn't really thought of making duvet cover "pockets" for the various components to sit in..that would certainly help neaten things up.

Having said that, we have had a bit more of a "play around" with the van today..and we've had a bit of a "eureka" moment (or perhaps a "why were we so daft?" moment? )

Now ordinarily in "transport mode" we leave the bed-boards out because-
a) They reduce the headroom in the back by 3+inches b) They are b***dy heavy, being 1" thick plyword, plus the carpet covering!) and c)When they are in place, you can't easily see if the pop-top sides are folding nicely or getting trapped when it is being lowered?

Having said (waffled! ) all of that, we now see that for "going away mode" we could fit the bed-boards prior to travelling (we'd just have to be extra careful when lowering the roof, with one of us outside making sure it wasn't trapped)AND with the boards in place, we would just about have room to leave our current "sofa bed mattress" laying on top of them,without it forcing the roof up off it's seals.

This in itself would save a lot of the "faff" when setting up the roof bed.
