Hi, Just bought a 2021 Elddis Explore 304 after many years of tenting. We use camping Gaz for the tent as we do camp in France quite a lot. Any advice for the gas bottle to purchase for this caravan that we will also use in France as well as uk. The previous owners red (so I guess propane) bottle looked taller and thinner than I have seen before. Thanks

Have you considered a refillable bottle such as Safefill? Expensive to buy but cheaper to refill and pay for themselves very quickly.

Apart from refillable bottles you won't find one that is compatible with a UK unit.
What I do is use the CampingGaz on the continent and Calor in the UK. If the CampingGaz runs out (always in the middle of breakfast) simply switch cylinders until you have the chance to collect a refill.
Vice versa when in UK.
Having said that, in 30 odd years or so I think I have renewed a CampingGaz cylinder about twice. Seem to use so little gas abroad.

How long are you going away for?

We took two 6kg propane bottles with us this year, we were away for 3 weeks, stayed of grid for 5 nights at France Passion sites using the gas for cooking, powering the fridge, hot water etc, we also used it quite a lot when staying on sites as we were quite often on sites with only 6A electric to power the fridge and for cooking. One bottle lasted us the whole trip.

Depending on how long you're planning to be away, a couple of 6kg bottles may well last you.

I have just had a look at these, looks like Morrisons may be getting onboard soon, but looking at the safefill website there are not may places to fill your bottles in Cornwall which is where we live or Dartmoor where we camp a lot. Shame, looks a good idea.

Having done a bit more research this is what I will do. Take uk propane and Camping Gaz. A lot of the campsites we visit are very basic with no electricity. Thank you.

What the Safefill site doesn't include are the LPG only stations that crop up, often used by taxi firms for example, or some builders merchants do LPG too. Might be worth a bit of homework in your area, you may find a supplier.

As we do practically all our camping in France, we take a Campingaz 907 with a small 901 as a back up.

It is so easy to get refils in supermarkets and DIY shops, that it is not necessary to lug around the heavier containers in the front locker

Depends what you need it for in France? If you don't plan on going off grid, or going during winter, you won't use much gas.

We used to take a campingaz 907 cylinder with a pigtail in case the 6KG calor bottle ran empty - we could then go to Hyper I or somewhere to exchange the 907 if needed, however, we realised that we didn't really need it for our two weeks a year in France so stuck to the 6 KG calor gas bottle and sold the 907, the Calor gas bottle lasts about 2-3 years as we only go on pitches with EHU

Thanks to everyone for replying. Eventually settled for pigtail for a calour bottle and a pigtail for 907 with adaptor. So will take both. Use calour first in France and switch to 907 if run out. The sites we use are mainly of grid. Thanks again for all your advice.
