We are finally changing our ancient sky box to Sky Q. I have just read that it needs a different LNB. Does anyone know which one(s)? Are they available from Amazon?
i think i'm right in saying , sky q requires a twin outlet lnb to enable you to watch one programe whilst recording another, and also the twin cable (figure of 8 cable)
i dont know if theres any differance in the actual lnb type
For sky q you would need a wideband LNB as well as a double cable.
There are 2 feeds to the box one carries the vertical channels and the other horizontal.

If the upgrade is for home, Sky will do the complete installation including changing the LNB. We looked at Sky Q, but it does not offer anything better than what you can get with the Sky+HD. If you record 3 one hour channels at the same time, that means you now have to find 3 hours to watch those recordings.
Cheaper and easy to use NOW to stream all Sky channels as and when you want to and no 18 month contracts and you can cancel at any time. No need to record 3 channels.
Also we take our Sky+HD box away with us and it is easy to line up for the satellite signal. Sky Q can be very difficult to align. The good news is if you watch Sky in your caravan keep your old Sky+HD box and use that in the caravan as you can use the Sky Q card in it.
Thanks, our old box is not even Sky+HD, it's far older than that. I assume we will be able to use the Sky Q card in that, or do we get to keep the original card?

I am not sure if it is backward compatible and will work in the pre-Sky+HD boxes, but may be worth trying. If not, Sky+HD boxes are normally available on Freecycle sites and eBay. The old card will only work for Freesat channels and you will not be able to record. Hope this helps.
We also applied for Sky Q, but when we realised it would not work with the existing sat dish on our caravan we decided to cancel plus the fact we saw no real advantage of being stuck in an 18 month contract.
How did you find out that it wouldn't work with your caravan dish? Getting worried now as OH has to have Sky Sports. We have a dish + tripod, not a roof mounted one, it's also old.

We would have needed the Sky Q LNB upgrade which would have been very expensive. Why don't you try and get old of an old Sky+HD box to use in the caravan or dump Sky Q altogether and use the Sky+HD box at home also.
Stream using Now TV with no contract etc and you can also watch Sport on Now Tv as it is the streaming service of Sky.
