Hi All,

I am getting all my gear together for our first camping trip tomorrow and I am thinking of getting a 12v Flourescent light to run off the car battery.  However I am a little concerned of what it will do to the car battery.  Does anyone have expeience of these? Ideally I suppose I just want to know if I can use it for a few hours each evening, make sure I tick the car over for half an hour the next day and everything be ok.

Cheers

We use a light inside a tent and we use a car battery and never had any probs and if only using it for lights one charge should last days, but someone will be along with more details.

Hi nezbit!  We have had a 2 tube flourescent for years now and allways run it off the car, probably on average about 2 hours a night, never had a problem. It might be a good idea though to go for a good run in the car occasionally as it takes as much out of the battery starting it than you would get back for half an hour tickover. Most good condition batteries should have no problems.
