I'm just about to consign my beloved Areobed to the skip as it's well and truly dead but I don't like the replacements raised models they have now so I'm looking at the Outwell Posadas double camp bed with a 10 - 15cm sim, does anyone have any experience of this type of set up and is it stable on ground which isn't flat?
TIA

We have the Outwell Posada and a Outwell dreamcatcher SIM set up. We take some little square pieces of wood with us to help with the ground that isn’t flat and it has worked well. My only grumble is that I am quite short and getting on and off the bed can be tricky, the bar at the side of the bed can dig into your legs if you are not careful when trying to get off it. However the bed is comfortable especially teamed up with a Double sleeping bag-duvet/pillows, if space is no issue and you get cold at night 😊

We have two X-LARGE single Outwell Posadas. They are very strong beds and provide, with a SIM, a comfortable nights sleep.   Cons. They are very heavy and the SIM slips about a bit on the top of the camp bed. Having said that we are not about to change them.

I had a camp bed + SIM set up, with an Outwell Laguna XL camp bed plus a Therm-a-rest Luxury Map XL which was 7.5cm thick.

I held the mattress down using a flannel fitted sheet.

To avoid the feet from digging into the groundsheet, I used metal jar lids and not plastic Pringle ones as I found they cracked too easily especially if the ground underfoot was soft.

It was a great sleeping system and very cosy in winter.

The camp bed was a bit of a faff to put together, and I would buy an Outwell Posada or the Kampa equivalent if I were to get a camp bed now for its easy of operation.

Only issue with camp bed + SIM was the increased in height.

I camped on my own with a dog in a 4-berth Dutch pyramid tent, and place the camp bed + SIM across the inner bedroom as there was insufficient space to have it lengthwise without touching the sides of the tent itself.

The Luxury Map SIM was so comfortable I bought a second one and used it when I went camping with another person. I placed some foam matts on top of the groundsheet first then the SIMs on top for extra comfort.

Rather than a heavy, bulky campbed, have a look at the Quecha bed bases from Decathlon. They clip together to form a double, and with a decent SIM on top they are ridiculously comfortable! We top ours with the outwell dreamcatcher sim, the two together is better than my bed indoors. As a plus, they pack up small which I don’t think camp beds do.

We have 2 of these which we use in our awning annex, we gave up on inflatable beds and although we initially bought the posada it was just too high to fit properly. We use a memory foam topper as we have the room in the van to transport it but I'm sure it they would work just as well with a sim. Son tells me its very comfortable!

Ooh, the Quest Somerset looks interesting, and I'm still curious about the Decathlon bedbase as I'm beginning to not like getting up off the floor at night...

Our 10cm Megamats are 80cm wide I think, so wondered if/how it would be to have a small 'hangover' with either of the beds mentioned.

Plus, there's a Vango Hush Grande bed that looks good too... can you tell I'm desperate to buy new stuff??

Another vote for the Decathlon bed bases.
Just spent a week on ours with a Quechua SIM on top, easily the most comfortable bed set up we've ever had in 25 years of camping, and equally as good (if not better than) our bed at home

Well, thanks to this thread I've just purchased, finally, a Decathlon bed base. They had one up in store to try, with a Megamat-stlye SIM on top. It felt soooooo good, I'd have napped there and then if it were not for the stray customers coming in to spoil my serenity.

Wish I'd bought them (only one today) when I first came across them in 2018 or so. Almost half the price then!

Anyway, sneaked it in pasat the OH ready for my trip this week with a friend - camping in her mum's (rather large) garden. I feel like a child again. Her OH has Parkinson's and she can't leave him overnight so I'm taking the camping fun to her as she's visiting mum who has a live-in carer, so they'll keep an eye on her OH as we go wild in the country.

Mine is a 'plain' one, not the newer version with lift-up slats to access under bed storage. Quite frankly, that's a lot of money extra for saving a bit of time. Put the bag beneath after inflating, then just reach through to get out what you need if clothes. Not exactly a bother. Yes, one has to move the SIM but it's not really a problem.

Just a quick report back. I ended up buying the double Posadas bed and 15cm Shangri la sim and it was the best sleep we've and in a tent. This is the no nookie set up due to weight restrictions after eating all of the Pringles to put under the bed legs

For the grandchildren I'll be getting them the Decathlon bed bases as a fall from the height of our new bed set up would see them in A&E

We've had the Quechua double set for some years ... have just replaced the top mattress with their new, sort of drop stitch, self inflating, one ... absolutely brilliant!
