I'm in a pickle here, and I'm hoping someone can help me out speccing a replacement part for a chemical toilet.

The last time I took the family camping, at the end of a fantastic stint in a charming site in the lakes, I took on the unenviable, but unavoidable duty of empty the chemical toilet. So I take the toilet out of its little utility tent, pop it on the collapsible wagon, and trundle off the the site's dumping facility. When I get there, I gingerly approach the chute and begin to screw open the outlet on the toilet. Then disaster! The instant I remove the cap from the outlet, the rubber gasket that keeps the unspeakable filth sealed inside the toilet tank just pings off, through the air, and without even touching the sides if drops straight down the chute into the septic tank.

Well needless to say, I wasn't about to stick my hand in there and fish it out! So I just emptied out the goods, screwed the cap back on, and went home.

Now, I obviously need a replacement, but I don't know what to buy! It's circular, and I believe the dimensions are approx 80mm OD and 70mm ID. But should it be plain rubber? Or nitrile? Is there some specific material that is used? Is there a supplier of such things or do I just find a generic round gasket on the internet?

I don't know the brand of the toilet - if there were any markings they have faded. I didn't even actually buy the thing - my parents bought it when their bathroom was out of action, and we just adopted it for camping trips. It looks pretty much exactly like THIS ONE. The gasket is for the large round outlet at the bottom on the back.

Any intel will be very gratefully received!

If it's a genuine Thetford Porta Potti (Many of the unbranded loos from Aldi/Lidl special buys are Thetfords too) then spares are not a problem.

Find the part number from the link above, and Google it, usually throws up a few sources.

As much as I like to help folks, I'm not too inclined to rummage in the dark corners of my loft to find my long unused one, dismantle it, disinfect the relevant bit and measure it for you. Sorry

Think you will find that Thetford (and Lidl/Aldi) ones have branding and model numbers embossed on the tanks if that helps.

Have a look at leisureshopdirect . And if you post a photo here, someone might recognise the model.
Your experience isn’t as bad as an exploding toilet: toilet fairy couldn’t remember when it was last emptied (emergency use only) plus hot weather.

Post two by gari actually has the link to the spares page on Leisure Shop Direct.

So this is probably the best place for the OP to start, even if they don't know the brand.

XVI yes?

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
