Hi
Hoping somebody can point me in the right direction. The van I about to purchase has a propane pigtail/hose coming form the bulkhead. What would be my best option if I wanted to convert this to butane (calor)?
Should I change the whole hose, or are there adaptors/converters available? What size would I require (20mm/21mm??).
I already have the butane bottles from my old van that used a regulator that fitted straight to the top of the bottle.
Any help would be great.

Thanks

I’d be inclined to change the pigtail - the ordinary ones have a limited life anyway. Should you feel the need to change gas type, Gaslow do a series of adapters that fit the LH thread butane fitting, including one for Campingaz. I used to do this as an emergency kit in France (never needed!) and use the latter with a small burner for outdoor cooking.

If you have Calor Butane cylinders you can exchange them for Calor Propane when they are empty, you will lose the value of any remaining fuel when you exchange. Propane works better if you need to cook when it's cold.
You can still pick up an empty Calor Propane cylinder for under £15 so this should not limit your decision. Get a small one (discontinued) and they'll upgrade you to a bigger one free of charge.
Over time gas hoses become crispy and brittle and need to be replaced on a normal maintenance schedule so treat the existing hoses as expendable.
To change from propane to butane you'll need a new regulator and to shorten the hose by an inch (if the hose has not become crispy and brittle). This is about £15.

Enjoy the liveliness of the syntax.

You should consider whether it may be better to go with propane as propane will gas off during very cold weather (-40℃), whereas butane is ok down to a couple of degrees above freezing, although this is fine if you only go away in warm weather
