Hi all, I hope someone might by able to help. We have just been away this weekend in our campervan for the 1st time. We had a unispectra aerial fitted and I bought the same make of 12v / 240 TV. The TV worked perfectly at home, but when we went to a site near Ripon, there was no signal after I tuned it in. We then went to a site near Settle and again no signal after tuning it in.I tried again to tune it in when in a car park in the centre of skipton, again nothing. Came home and tuned it in. Fully working. We can't understand why we couldn't get any reception? Can anyone help? Thanks for any replies.

when you say you " came home and tuned it in" do you mean you tuned it in , in the house , or were you tuning it in, using the Unispectra aeriel in the campervan at home, if its the latter, then its obviously not picking up the transmitter at the location, did you speak to anyone else on sites, could they pick up the transmitter? , can you look the site up on this forum ,and check the tv coverage in that area?

Hi yes, we tried to tune it in on site, and did everything the same once home. We can't understand why it wouldn't pick up anything in the centre of Skipton. Other people were watching TV on the campsite in Settle.

not familiar with the Unispectra aeriel, but van aeriels are fairly notorious for "not working", are these aeriels able to distinguish or manouver between horizontal and vertical signals, and what signal did the local transmitter(s) use

Omnidirectional aerials (as is yours I believe), have a bit of a poor reputation in general for good signal reception in more marginal reception areas.

Those around you on site with the very common Vision Plus type directional caravan aerial (wedge shape and flipable from horizontal to vertical orientation, and needs manually pointing towards transmitter) will often get good reception, whilst omnidirectional aerials fail! And of course some may have satellite systems instead of aerials.

If you can't get a signal, whilst others on same site can, worth paying attention to see what aerial/satellite system they use, may just be omnidirectional aerial problem rather than a fault with your specific aerial.

Skipton broadcast mast is a public service broadcasting (PSB) (Freeview Light) transmitter, it does not provide many of the commercial channels, only providing less than half the Freeview channels that are normally available, so you may not find many channels you would normally watch. And like many PSB mast's it's lower power output, so weaker signal.

Rippon should have been OK, but some patchy coverage in region. Settle again a weak signal area I believe.

If it works in some areas, rather suggests no fault with equipment, but signal strength problem. Maybe stating the bleeding obvious, but I've encountered it on some sites, some pitches have good line of site view to transmitter, whilst others have trees, masts/pylons, buildings etc. in the way, that can weaken the signal enough to kill reception!

Thanks Monty15. I think you might be spot on. We are just going to make sure we have a dvd player with us, just in case we want to watch something, if we can't be outside.
