Hello
Iv just tried out this awning and wasn’t overly impressed. The awning seemed to be too short and we had at least three inches where the material just wouldn’t stretch to the floor where it met the van. I don’t know if I didn’t have it pitched properly or it really was too short.
The other problem we had was flies. Dozens of them swarming on the roof of the tent. I don’t know if this is because of the design of the roof where it slopes up so deeply and traps them on the roof.
There were so many we struggled to have the door open and it was really unpleasant to sit below them.
I’m sure I don’t remember having this when I last caravaned a good fe years ago.. I’m tempted to sell it and look for the proper canvas awning to fit my tent. Is this normal with nylon sloped roof awnings. ?
I’d also like suggestions for a good rechargeable uv fly zapper light for awnings.

Slightly confusing post! Firstly you don't state you caravan, so we've no idea if your awning rail falls within the typical height range and is comparable with our vans. Secondly your statement "... proper canvas awning to fit my tent..." doesn't make a lot of sense in the context of the post, if at all!

I've got a Sunncamp Swift Deluxe 260SC, which is just a larger version of yours, that fits my van perfectly, with ample depth to cope with the sloping pitches I've been on.

Sunncamp state in their info, the awning fits caravans with an attaching height between 235cm - 250cm. That's pretty much the norm for porch awnings in general.

BUT Sunncamp, as do most manufacturers, have done campervan versions (designated 'Low' version) of many awnings with a lower roofline, fitting vans with attachments heights of 185cm-200cm! Assuming you don't have an exceptionally high caravan, that would tie in with your short walls, you haven't got a 'LOW' campervan version awning have you!

As to flies in the apex of the roof, perfectly normal with all the awnings I've encountered, two of my own, the Sunncamp and a Kampa Rallye Air Pro 330, and an assortment of friends awnings of different types and brands! I've found the optional roof lining on my Kampa, doesn't stop the flies, but they are trapped between that and the outer and are far less noticeable, and usually die quite quickly from the heat.

I'm very impressed with my Sunncamp over the 3 years I've owned it, and it, and carbon copy alternatives from other manufacturers, are one of the most popular awnings you see on most sites.

Never found UV bug killers very effective in the day time, don't think the light source is powerful enough to compete with daylight! Also found they are more effective on some bugs more than others, ordinary flies and bluebottles seemingly being particularly reluctant to zap themselves! I bought a portable rechargeable UV bug zapper from Lidl/Aldi (centre aisle special buy) a couple of years back, that seems quite effective on annoying midge/mozzy type bugs in the evenings. I've also got a mains plug type (again Aldi/Lidl centre aisle special buy) that I use in the van overnight, that seems to deal with the annoying overnight intruders that find their way past flyscreens!
