IMO a lot of fuss over nothing! Just look around and there you go (literally).
I gave up on the shower type thing as it it was more fuss. Open rucksack, find little bag it was in, do the necessary then pack it all away again. Not using one means I don't even need to take my rucksack off.
If peeing outside just be careful. When at work a couple of lads decided their holiday would be exciting to go to Africa. Took a 2 man tent for sleeping. Electrics not as good as UK, one of them got out for a pee. Never came back and friend found him electrocuted. Thus he came back to UK in a coffin. It was a sad day returning to work after annual shutdown,

Welcome back Homebird: my sister, who has MS (sadly now pretty much housebound) did continue camping for a while and used the 'funnel and bottle'contraption (portable urinal) and took it to the facilities in a bag to empty, for discretion. She then lent it to my other sister who had flesh removed from her nether region as part of a breast reconstuction after mastectomy. That's probably more info than you need but, they do work, althoyugh benefit from practice.
I prefer the zombie walk to the loo and back at night, you can see lots of wildlife and the moon and stars. But I have used the waste bucket when it was peeing down outside. Small bucket, strong thighs required .
I wouldn't do the nightime flit behind the tent... after all, would you like to pitch on someone elses pee?
Thank you bridgewidge, that's very helpful. My daughter used the shewee & bottle as she couldn't leave her daughter and I did the moonlit walk as facilities were very close.
My wife who used to tent camp, and always pitched with the back to a hedge. Now she tells me that she keeps a ice-cream tub with lid in the garden shed in case I lock her out again by mistake!
I frequently camp with the front to the hedge. I like being able to open up the tent and have some privacy, and to be able to pee in a bucket in the night!
