Exactly what we use. Never had one pull out yet.
I've got that style of peg in abundance (they are nothing particularly special, just a standard Coach Screw, typically M8x200, available from any hardware shop, with a plastic 'hook' fitted).
They work really well in most situations I have to agree, and I use them all the time, but certain they wouldn't have done much on the pea gravel pitch I referred to, that must have been 8" (200mm) or more deep of what amounted to loose stone ball bearings! There was no cohesion between individual stones, so no 'grip' for any kind of peg to get a good footing in, think the only hope would have been a peg long enough to reach through the pea gravel to the ground beneath!
The site was entirely laid out for minimum maintenance by the owner, rather than usefulness of the users!

One of the many reasons we always go for a grass pitch whenever possible.
