Last year i bought a S/H electrolux portable 3 way fridge and everything was working fine. This year, it only seems to work of the electric mains. I used it at the Bagwell meet on gas, flame established but not getting cold. Any ideas anyone??

Was the fridge level? I have found with mine that the direction and amount of tilt is critical. It can be tilted one way by quite a lot and still work fine, a few degrees out the other way and it doesn't chill at all. It is all down to the fall of the pipes at rear of the fridge. Tilting one way just increases the fall, the other way eliminates the fall entirely.
If setting it level doesn't work;-
1) Turn it upside down.
2) Leave it a few seconds.
3) Turn it back the right way around.
4) Leave it a few more seconds.
Repeat 1-4.
That should get the Ammonia into the correct place.
If it works with the mains/12v, you shouldn't need to take it out and turn it upside down as this shows that the ammonia solution is still mixed and working ok.
Could be down to the level with the gas jet in a slightly different place to the electric heaters, could be gas jets slightly blocked though, not giving a full hot flame.
or not enough oxygen.
Other possibility: forgot to switch of electricity.
If both elements work, the system is overheated, the ammonia evaporates, but does not condensate again and blocks the system
Other possibility: Some fridges are blocked for safety if electricity is not switched off. The flame than simply will not increase above a basic size or will not ignite at all. Those fridges often have a very clear 'click' at zero, where you need some force. People tend to think it is switched off when the switch sits against the zero point, but in fact one has to turn just a bit further.
Check whether your fridge is one with this system.
Have you checked it on gas in the same location as it works ok on mains? I got the impression from your first post that you may have tested ok at home on mains, and then found on site at Bagwell, that it didn't work on gas. That would not necessarily mean that the gas side was faulty. It could have been a level thing with the site. In which case, had you tried it, it would not have worked on mains either.
I would test it on gas in a location where you are sure it works on mains before getting into dismantling anything. It can take quite a while to cool. You should also feel warm air rising from the upper vents.
