Hi There,

As a relative newbie to camping I read through all the posts on Cobb BBQs with interest. I really would like to have one (so long as it doesn't melt on me!) but, given that I also have a two ring gas cooker and wife who thinks we will not have enough space in the car, I am not sure I need all the bits.

So for those that have had their Cobbs for a long time, do you really need / use the frying pan and Wok as well?

I was thinking of just getting the Cobb amd a roasting rack for my first trip.

Hmmm... perhaps I could leave one of the kids behind to create the extra space ...?

Kingfisher9 , don't bother with the wok, or frying pan , you will be fine just with the cobb and the rack , see how you go , and then upgrade as you go !

Have fun

Kevin

The wok is a great substantial pan! BUT the frying pan has never crispy fried my eggs in the mornings as it never heated up that high temp...even with up to 14 heatbeads!!!!!!!!!!! Get a regular one for a few pounds at tesco/asda! that will go over the heatbeads rack, thus getting closer to the heat.

But I do recommend the roasting rack and i beleive this SHOULD be part of the basic package and not sold seperately because its use is invaluable.

We use a cobb a lot when camping - but we use a traditional frying pan on a gas burner for bacon etc - cooks faster.

Les.

I have had mine about a year and it is the one bit of kit that we would not be without.  I just use a lidded wok with mine but fancy a roasting rack.  If you do go for the whole set, it is designed to all fit in the carry bag.  Check out ebay too as a friend got a good deal waiting for the last minute.

If it is hot enough to do burgers and sausages why is it not hot enough to do bacon??

Sorry to Hijack but I also am considering a Cobb.

It probably will get hot enough to cook bacon, but if you have a gas burner, you'll have the bacon cooked by the time the Cobb is ready - like any bbq, it takes about 20 minutes to be ready to cook on, as you have to let the heat beads light fully.

I have a Cobb, and it's great for things that need long cooking (like the lamb shanks I did at May Day), as you can virtually leave it to its own devices while you chill out and do other things, and it doesn't dry the meat out (and it does fantastic jacket spuds), but ScampisOH likes his 'normal' bbq too so that he can sit with the rest of the men in their little 'secret society' (there's 4 of them with identical bbqs - it has to be seen to believed!!!) and set the world to right while they make their sacrifice to the god of charcoal!!  Also, we didn't find the grill of the Cobb big enough to cook enough for the 3 hungry-nosed carnivores in our house, so the 2 together (Cobb and normal bbq) mean we can cook plenty of food, and use whichever is most appropriate for the job.
