It probably will get hot enough to cook bacon, but if you have a gas burner, you'll have the bacon cooked by the time the Cobb is ready - like any bbq, it takes about 20 minutes to be ready to cook on, as you have to let the heat beads light fully.
I have a Cobb, and it's great for things that need long cooking (like the lamb shanks I did at May Day), as you can virtually leave it to its own devices while you chill out and do other things, and it doesn't dry the meat out (and it does fantastic jacket spuds), but ScampisOH likes his 'normal' bbq too so that he can sit with the rest of the men in their little 'secret society' (there's 4 of them with identical bbqs - it has to be seen to believed!!!) and set the world to right while they make their sacrifice to the god of charcoal!! Also, we didn't find the grill of the Cobb big enough to cook enough for the 3 hungry-nosed carnivores in our house, so the 2 together (Cobb and normal bbq) mean we can cook plenty of food, and use whichever is most appropriate for the job.
