thanks tentmad and dita

I was just toying with the idea of cardboard, lol and yes, I'm already treating the bags as "the precious"

They didn't have the large ones in poundstretcher but I will stop into loads of them on my way up north this weekend, are they big enough for a duvet? (I think the firl said they were JML but she definitely said £9.99).

If it is for sleeping bags or things that don't mind being creased. You can use an ordinary black bin liner. Scrunch up the top so there is just enough room for the hoover nozzle. Hold it around the hoover with your left hand, while holding the hoover in the right hand. When it is reduced, remove nozzle quick as you cand and turn the black bin liner round and round then tie and fasten down with that brown parcel tape. You can't use it again, but it is cheap and works. I should know, there are sleeping bags in my loft still sqashed up from last year! carole

Hi Shirley,

We got a kingsize double sleeping bag into one of the big bags so I think a double duvet should go into one.

I got mine from Bettaware a few years ago so can't remember the price but I know they were reasonable. Haven't tried the cardboard trick hence creased clothes. Have also had a duvet re-expand under the bed and it took a lot of effort and even more swearing to get it out again.

We got ours from Argos last year.

The biggest size can fit our 13 tog double duvet.  We suck the air out with the vacuum before we go and on the way home, we sit on it and roll about to get as much air out as we can without the vacuum.

we now avoid the ones with valves as they tend to break easily around that bit. The best is the ones that seal by static.  Worked a treat last week with our king size sleeping bag, used a air pump in reverse before heading back!

WOW, loads of info - cool

Haven't found right bits of cardboard yet to try it for the clothes, been to 3 poundstretchers and 2 woolworths and no big bags to be found.  Have any of you tried deflating for coming home with the yellow argos 12V pump?  I reckon I would need to effect some sort of adapter.  Going off up east coast tomorrow and will check out all the shops on the way, duvet will be in bin bag for this weekend.

cheers

Shirley

I got Pack Mate Vacusacs from Ebay for about £10. I've just had a look and think they are a bit more expensive now though. Also seen them in John Lewis and Lakeland. We're thinking of doing our duvet and pillows using them so interesting to hear that other people do as well.

Hi

After reading all about these on here I picked up the ones from argos today. Wow, they are fab, they're really big.....can't find the measurements anywhere now. I managed to get a 13 tog duvet and 2 fluffy pillows in easily, infact I think I can get my fleecy throw in too. They were 11.99 for 2.  OH can no longer complain that my need to be warm at night takes up the whole car .

I think I'll go for the Argos ones then, do you think they could be deflated with the argos 12V yellow pump?

not really sure, depends on the connectors you get with it, think we can use our coleman 12v pump as we've got a wide nozzle thing.
