Ideas please. I have some very nice very snug (too snug sometimes) bags which are too big for my washing machine but don't want to have to dry clean them. Not a good idea with all those fumes anyway. I have tried to use liners which I made for all of us but they proved to be a bit impractical and got used as sheets instead. Any ideas on how to get them cleaned? Very heavy when wet as I tried to wash one in the bath with the intention of squashing it in the machine to spin and it took two of us dripping down the stairs to achieve that one. And then the *&^$%£*% birds went and crapped on it while it was drying!!!!!!!
Hi. do what we do and take it to a launderette. the drums there are huge so will easily take them. Best to take them home and dry them naturally as they can be affected by the heat of a dryer.
if the bags themselves are relatively cheap (less than £20) i wouldnt bother getting them laundered it cost me £8 to get a basic bag laundered and i could have replaced it for a tenner DOH
you must have a very small washer you can fit 1 bag in surly, machines go on weight 10lb dry for smallest one 12lb and a whopping 15lb dry weights, i cant see your sleeping bag been over 10lb bulky yes but it should fit in dry and washed on -40 or less, dont try the feather ones they need dry cleaning only.
Well I have successfully managed to wash all 4 sleeping bags today, seperatley I may add, in my washing machine, I only have a normal size washing machine, and they are all single sleeping bags, would have struggled with doubles, but no problems with singles

I would NEVER EVER trust one of my treasured down (feather) bags to a dry cleaner, heavan knows what nasty smelly chemicals they would use.
You should ideally hand wash down\feather bags with a natural soap, no detergents.
Nikwax sell a soap specifically designed for down\feather items, and with care they can be machine washed although you should flush the washine machine with clean water first.
We've got two large single sleeping bags that zip together, I took them to the local laundrette along with our duvet, paid to leave them there for washing and drying and picked them up the next day. Can't remember how much we paid, but it was well worth it. I usually take them once a year at the end of the season, in-between I just air them on the washing line.
All of ours will go in the machine except pne of them, its just too thick to fit in I get that washed in the launderette, but not very often we try to air it out as much as possible. There are some that just wont fir into a regular washing machine at home.
I would bin it but its a footie one and my son insists he keeps it.
lol we only got a small bosch 12lb dry load, its our 2nd washer in 20 years and its never off 4 times aday every day, and we really put them through hell with 5 kids..
Know that feeling well Wildie. We have four kids and the washer is always on! Just need to find someone else to do the ironing!
Can fit our single bags into our washing machine but the kingsize double has to got to the launderette. I have also tumble dried the singles and it doesn't seems to have had any adverse affect on them. Plumped them up nicely actually.
