Hi

Dont forget to get your camping micro fibre towels from lidl today, there is loads of other stuff  too

http://www.lidl.co.uk/gb/index.nsf/pages/i.home

I did see a sun canopy lidl call a sun sail for 24 quid, it packs smaller than a gazebo. Are they any good? Can they be easily put up by one person? There is no shade on our cliftop in Wales and our tent gets hot, and I was toying with the idea of putting something over the front of out tent to stop it getting too hot.

How do you keep your tents cool? There is a joke there but I have no shades, Ho Ho

Back to your original question Paul.

Khyam sell what they call a screen canopy for £30.  the picture on their website doesn't do it justice.   http://www.khyam.co.uk/products.asp?category=accessories&productID=25

It is just a huge sheet of tent material with a 7 ft pole.  It ties (with a bow) to your dome tent and you use two other poles at the front corners (not supplied).  It's big enough to park the car under.  We bought one to sit under when the sun was beating down (hah) but first time out it proved an equally good shelter from the rain.  It's like an awning for a tent I suppose.

Got those towels last year. wash and dry well don't feel like cotton ones but then they dont' stay soggy for long either.

We take a smallish parasol and a plastic water filled (at ths site!) base with us and it usually does the trick - if you can carry a gazebo is good but needs anchored well - we were greatly entertained on one site by a french family trying to catch and escaped gazebo in the wind - just as well there was plenty space. They got a fright!

lets hope we need sun shades!
