We have a new tent. The instructions say that we mustn't use chemical insecticides. Does that include those plug in ones that take the little blue tablet? Wife gets eaten alive by mossies, and we have always used those electric ones in cottages etc.
If we can't use those, anyone have any suggestions?
Buy yourself some Avon skin-so-soft moisturiser in the woodland fresh variety. Honestly, it is the best stuff in the world. Hikers swear by it in the highlands of Scotland. I visit the Isle of Skye almost annually to see my grandmother and it is the *only* stuff that works. Forget your citronella, etc. My Grandmother's husband's first wife (convoluted I know!) used it when they sailed a lot and although she refused to wear it, she smeared it around the windows to good effect.
However, I doubt you could do that with a tent. Some people don't like the smell of this stuff but I don't mind it and it sure beats the stench of the other mossie stuff that's available.
I don't understand why Avon don't market this differently but it is the best kept secret in the camping/hiking world. It works for me and I get eaten alive normally.
I'm so ecstatic about the success of this stuff that I'll say it again!
I think they are refering to the use of fly sprays etc within the tent. I can not see any reason not to use fly papers or you tablets. A word of warning about fly papers, remember to take it out BEFORE you fold up the tent! It takes ages to clean up if you do not.
I hear that if you eat marmite you will not be bothered by mossies.

You can buy a battery powered ultra violet bug/fly killer on ebay, it electrocutes them (like what you get in cafes). We bought one for £9.00. We've tested it and it works.
I agree avon skin so soft is the best ever, I`ve tried everything but this is the best.
I tried it abroad in malaria zone countries and it kept them away but silly me( I`m new to camping ) never thought about taking it with us last weekend. I`m still itcing now with the bites. Will def remember to pack it for our next trip out.
Took mine camping last weekend. Things started nibbling in the evening and the kids complained so I stuck some on our ankles. Hubby refused - scent obviously too feminine. He now regrets it as a week later he is still itching!
By the Way - I tried to get one of the mozzie lamp things from Aldi - as usual they all disappeared before I could get there - should be on Ebay sometime soon.. even one of the managers reckons it'd be a good idea to hold some stock back for late in the day to 'reward' the workers who shop there and spend lots of moey.. no offfence meant by this - it's just we can't get to the store in time for the best things and yet we can be good customers..
Think I feel a letter to head office coming on...
