I have been considering the Duuo folding trailer for camping and general use because of limited storage space, narrow access etc. The trailer looks great for our needs and has a huge 24.5 cubic feet capacity as it is deeper and wider than other comparable standard trailers. Does anyone have first-hand experience or own a Duuo easy-store trailer and would you recommend buying one. I am a little concerned that the 480x8 wheels/tyres may be too small for long journeys but not having towed before I could do with some advice.
I have a trailer (not the Duuo) and have not had any trouble in the past with towing. Remember that the speed limit for a trailer is 50 mph (Duuo size) and 60 mph for trailers with fitted breaks.
The trailer tyres are generally more expensive (for their size - car/trailer) and have been designed for such travel (if used as per manufactures standards). The tyres also have been designed for long periods of no use (cracks in the rubber etc), they also have to stand up to the trailer bounce.
If not sure if a trailer/tyre is not up to the task in hand have it check first at a garage.
According to the highway code, or my specific specimen (3 years old) there is no mention of a lower speed limit for unbraked trailers, for single carriageway the national speed limit is 50mph, and for multiple carriageway it is 60mph. I'm *pretty* sure that there isn't a law that states a unbraked trailer has to go slower than a braked trailer. I'll have a search on the government website when I have a minute
I might be wrong on the 50mph speed limit now thinking about it , i was just quoting a friend who is a Defence Driving Instructor for the Forces, he could have been quoting their regulations. I will check as well, sorry if i have caused any confusion, but at least it will make everyone aware.
Towing Speeds: On motorways & dual carriageways 60 MPH, other roads 50 MPH, provided no lower limit is in force and the gross weight of vehicle and trailer is less than 7.5 tonnes. You are not allowed in the third lane of a motorway when towing.
I was wrong. oops , but that also means i can get there faster now not that i will with 2 youngsters who constantly have to stop..
Duuo trailer - we have one. It's the only trailer I have ever owned or towed and it is great for us - 2 kids and Ford Focus. We get loads of stuff in it - still need the roofbox - but it is easy for a novice like me to tow. We got it cos it was easy to store and had huge capacity, and it came from our local B&Q.
After weeks of deliberation and looking at every small trailer model under the sun I think I may go for the Duuo. Do you think it would be a suitable trailer for occasional long distance motorway use? Have you used yours on the motorway? Also could you tell me if the Duuo is smooth on the road because I have seen some small trailers banging and bouncing all over the road because (I suspect) of the small wheel size or hard suspension.
Does anyone else have any useful advice or information regarding the Duuo easy-store trailer or any other recommendations?
