We have just got a new Bobb BBQ , and find that while it is great to cook on / in , it is a devil of a job to clean. We find that the fat from the food runs into the well (which is good) but when you try to clean it , the old coals and ash and fat all seems to get mixed up together , making a right old mess.
What do you other Cobb owners do to get yours clean after cooking ?
LOL yeah i saw the advert and thought of the Cobb, Scampi! Will give it a go next time.

Tip - get a bowl that fits snugly around the bead chamber - we got one from Poundstretcher or a similar store - when the beads are cold - put the bowl upside down over the bead chamber & tun the whole Cobb upside down. Voila - the ashes fall inro the bowl and not into the moat. Then you can clean the moat using hot water/soap/scourers/Fairy Spray - whatever takes your fancy.
If you're lucky enough to have a dishwasher handy - it can even go in there!
Happy Cobbing.......
------------- No matter where you go - there you are!
Three or four peices of kitchen roll in the moat ( holding the towels with a pair of tongs ) if it's still hot soak up the fats/oil then you can tip out the ashes into whatever then you are ready to clean the cobb ... simple , and not forgetting if the beads are still quite big then put then in water to make them cold, then dry them off and then you just pop them back into the bag , to use again next time ! if there is lots of fat/oil then do what we do and suck it out of the moat with a turkey baster !
Have fun !

You tried your best
and failed MISERABLY.
The lesson is : NEVER TRY .
As a vegetarian...you would be surprised how much oil and yuk comes out of veggie burgers, sausages etc...Too be honest...I am too lazy to clean the grease out immediately after cooking and eating and thats when the problems arrise...after it has set rock hard ;)

well why don't you do what I do with my bar-b-q's. I always line the bottom of the barbys with a couple of layers of tin foil then when I've finished cooking and it's all cooled down, I just fold the tin foil in on itself, ash, fat & all and throw it away!! Simple!

Sometimes I use roasting bags and that makes a lot less mess and the times I dont when the fat has set I tip it into the bin to get rid of the ash and then use a spoon to scoop most of the fat out and then add a little washing up liquid and a little hot water from the kettle as I usually clean it in the morning after breakfast let it soak for 15 min then wipe out with kitchen roll, that usually does fine and its ready for the night then, if its really bad I do the above then take it to the sinks for a proper wash but thats not offten. I then give a really good clean when we get home.
A slightly different method is to use a turkey baster (ie a large pipette available for about in certain shops for £1) to remove the fat/wine/beer from the moat. Then empty the fire tray then clean with fairey power spray.
If after a time the fire chamber gets a build up of carbon remove this with a rather nasty smelling carbon remover from a co. such as betterwear, just clean well with water later.
I'm with Fiona. I cant be bothered cleaning on the night and I find the tinfoil lining process a pain and unless you have really wide foil the fat seeps through the joints. I just leave it till the moring tip the ash into the bin and squirt with washing up liquid fill the moat with hot water from the kettle and leave for 15 mins then use a plastic scourer brush with a long handle to whisk off any burnt on crud - only takes a jiffy - ready for next round!!
