Does anyone have any views on whether it is best for younger children to have branded (Gelert) mummy sleeping-bags, or to stick with the standard ones I bought last year? I wondered if the more cosy head bit was better for keeping the warmth in, or if there really isn't much in it during the summer?
Thanks!

Since the munmmy bags have lots of draw cords around the neck area to tighten up the opening I would either remove them and lose all the advantages or stick with what you have. A woollie hat can do wonders and give the same effect as the hood on the sleeping bags anyway.
The junior bags don't have cord they have to be elasticated for safety.
my grandson loves his vango midi but unfotuatly he may well have out grown it this year Hes a very tall 7 and half but it was well worth the money as hes never woken up whilst camping
Daisy has a junior mummy bag with a drawcord, so they don't have to be elasticated, in fact elastic would be a pain on warmer nights. What I do is put her to bed and do the cord for her, leaving it hanging outside the bag. The downside being that I have to let her out in the morning! I wish I had someone to do that for me, as I have no option but to keep mine in the bag, and I do get tangled up in it sometimes.
My 4 year old loves his Vango nightstar convertible, and the advantage is...when he grows we can zip the extension on, and it's goo till he's a teenager!

We bought ours kids vango mummy adult bags last year when they were 5 & 7. I initially bought some cheapie child sized ones from Argos which were perfectly good, but I took them back because the 7 yr old would have out grown it within a year and it wasn't worth replacing them again so soon.
If yours are a lot younger I guess it depends to a degree how sensible they are. Mine have always been quite good about things like that, whereas my friends son would be guaranteed to have done himself some mischief by morning!
We use adult bags and I didn't go for the head option thing in case of overheating - they can always wear a hat of they're chilly. However, our bags go down to minus 10 so that's never been a problem. And I cut the draw cords out of all of them to be on the safe side. They end up being used as duvets in the summer, using quilt covers as bag liners so they slide into these and then pull the bag over them if they get chilly in the night.
