I've just purchased a Campingaz Kitchen stove ( the one with two hobs), and a campingaz regulator.
Does anyone have experience of these and can help me avoid any (dangerous?) mistakes? Any tips?
Also I'm rather shocked to see that gas canisters for this stove cost about 40 quid. Does anyone know the cheapest way top buy gas? Can you get it cheaper online?
Yes, the cost of the gas is about £13 for a 907 bottle but it should last quite a while as long as you're not running a fridge off it or a permanent heater.
Forgot to say, you only have to buy the empty bottle once - you just change it after that for a full one.
You have to sign a written agreement when you first purchase the gas cylinder (at a cost of £40) after that you return empty cylinder and get a new full one at a cost of about £9. The advice about asking at your local tip is very good. Worth offering the chap there a fiver for a drink

We never signed anythin ?? We just grabbed a couple of canisters from the local recyling center for free ,then took them to calor and paid £10.99 to swap for full ones!
we have the camping gaz stove and it does the job well,we havent any complaints about it and last week we went to a local second hand stall on the market and bought a 907 & 904 camping gaz cylinder £12 for both, and one is half full.have a look around dumps, junk shops that sort of place
"ok, thanks guys will try the tip - what about safety though? - don't really want to take risks around my 4 -year-old.."
Don't forget that the bottle you get from "the Tip" will NOT be the botttle you will be using around your child.
You will be using another FULL bottle which you exchanged the "TIP" one for!

I exchanged the bottle I found in parents attic (hadn't been used for about 20 years so I didn't want to use it either), also I didn't pay £13 for the refill as I purchased a tent from the same shop to be collected the following week, they then accidently sold it again so gave me a free gas bottle as gesture of goodwill.
Not all places charge silly money for your initial gas bottle.
I live in Wolverhampton and one of my local dealers will sell you a 'new' bottle without any deposit. Why? Because his prices are SO cheap that he knows you will not go anywhere else for gas.
Shop around try builders merchants too (Hint Hint)
