Our friends have an 10 year old caravan.  The fridge works ok on 12v, but when changed over to gas it will ignite fine - but won't chill the fridge.  He has taken it out of its housing and stood it upside down for a day - not sure if this worked, but before I ring them to find out has anyone has any clues as to what has gone wrong?

Turning the fridge upside down is a quick way to re-mix the chemicals that cause the contents of the fridge to chill.

If it works on 12v though it should also work on gas. The same fridge internal chemicals are used for each.

Hi Sarahk , if the fridge works ok on 12volt then i'd suggest your friends have the fridge serviced , part of the service will be the gas system , i think there's one possibably two problems , either the flame being produced by the burner isn't correct or the fridge wasn't perfectly level when running on gas . Having the fridge out of the caravan will mean that the cost of the service is reduced by about 50% . If you want to find some very good info on fridges the Haynes Caravan Manual is a good source , you can find it at Halfords .

Unlevel fridges do seem to cause most fridge problems .

Hi Sarahk.  I also had the same problem last weekend.  Chatting to my dad about it he too has had trouble with the fridge.  Both our freezers work but the fridge doesn't.  I was parked on a slight slope so I'm hoping that's the answer but I'll keep an eye here just in case there's any other suggestions!

I have the same problem, however, I was talking to a guy that repairs caravans when in Riverside Leisure the other week and he suggested using an air line to blow down the outlet.

Just been to the garage to fill up and have done so - will let you know after the weekend if it works....!

Could be the level of the fridge, or a blocked burner jet.
