Hi All,

I am thinking of buying a 300watt inverter from Maplins ( on offer for £20 ) to run my tv and sky digibox from my 110 amp leisure battery.  If the weather is good this shouldn't be a prob as it will give us a couple of hours tv per night for the week.  If the weather is lousy the tv may be used more so I was wondering what effect it would have running the inverter with tv/sat attached from the car cigar lighter and the engine ticking over?

Cheers

It had crossed my mind!  But seriously the car is very quiet when ticking over and as it is a company car I don't pay for fuel.

Think of the impact you'll have on the environment. Buy a 12volt tv instead.

You'll be surprised how loud even the quietest car tickin over can be, especially in the evening

why don't you play cards instead like we do, it's more fun, kids love it and you don't need any power (accept for the lamp lol)

On tickover you wont be charging the cars battery as the regulator will not of cut in yet,i think it cuts in around 1500 revs so after a while that would be flat as well (starting as well as running the tv off of it)

Ok ok!  Perhaps not my best idea.

I've bought a small 7" TFT tv that should run off the lesure battery for days keeping both me and the enviroment happy.

Cheers

Even at tickover an alternator will "charge" not a good idea to leave diesels ticking over can glaze the bores and cause acidic acid, not that clever with Petrol engines either

Its the old dynamo's that used to need some revs to put out any charge.

Why not buy an electric hookup or borrow one if you need your telly. Not bothered about tv personally but each to their own. If you have fuel you don't want you can fill my car up anytime

Totally agree about not running your engine as most people go camping for the fresh air. Also a fire hazard so would be against campsite regs.

Well I suppose that on a quiet campsite, if you are listening to the TV, you probably wont notice the sound of your car.

Ordinarily I agree that I could quite happpily do without the tv, however due to a mix up in dates we have booked to go to Devon on the first week of the football season.  All I'll be watching is the games during the day on sat/sun.

Sounds like an excuse for a trip to the pub to me!

Who needs an excuse?
