Hi all,

I have a Status Boosted TV Aerial fitted to my motorhome, I don't really know much about it, but I was wondering if it is likely to be compatible with a Digital terestrial box? Anyone have any exprience with this?

Many thanks

Duncan

We have never got a decent picture from our status aerials in either of our caravans we have owned so we have now given up and take a book and CDs instead!. Our new van is only 4 weeks old and we can only get a just passable picture in our garden! I really don't think the status aerials are all they are cracked up to be. On any site we have been on the only people with any TV on are those with a portable on legs outside the van or are plugged into the site own system.

Hi and thanks for your reply..

I tried the TV on the drive last night, but didn't get a very good signal, but I put that down to being so close to the house. Also the TV reception at home is useless.. The motorhome came with one of these status things fitted and also what looks like a household aerial stowed under the seat. It has suckers on it, which I guess are to stick it to the side of the van. If the status work I guess I could use that..

After I posted I did a search, yes I know I should have done it the other way round ;) .. There seems to be a real difference of opinion, so I guess I'll give it a go. Its only 30 quid for a set top box..

You will not get as good a picture on the Status as a normal directional TV aerial unless you are in avery strong signal area.

The problem with digital terrestrial as I see it is that you would need the book of good reception areas to plan where to take it !!

Joking but not altogether

The status is compatible, but the analogue TV reception on a status will be a good deal worse than a normal rooftop directional aerial, many posters on this site have reported the inefectiveness of the status aerial. An omnidirectional aerial such as the status has a much lower gain than the roof top variety.

In general digital reception needs a better quality aerial than even your average roof top variety, so the chances of reliable digital reception on a status seem slim, except in strong signal areas.

Hear the voice of one who knows - the long hard way, having suffered my hubby and his aerial perfomances every  year!!!! Our new caravan which we picked up a week before the annual hols came with a Status 315 already fitted and we sort of sighed. Because we'd tried one some years before on our other caravan but thankfully only stuck it to the roof to test it first which ended up saving us drilling a hole into our beloved home on wheels when we discovered that it was total rubbish where we were, (and where we've been going for the past 12 years!).

So, we knew we'd need to still use a pole mounted aerial on the A frame once again which we did but we invested in a tiny wee cheap (under £35 in Asda), freeview box too and suddenly we had clear TV on all channels and had channel five for the first ever in Cornwall. Even the locals can't five without SKY, freeview or something similar.

My advice, definitely get a freeview box worth it's tiny weight in gold AND it tunes all your channels straight in, which if your TV isn't one with auto set up, you'll know is a real blessing! Go for it mate!
