Any recommendations? Not used one before but imagine them to be very noisy?

I bought one this week for when we haven't got EHU. You need to have the car engine running while you use it or the battery will go flat!

They're fairly noisy, but as geoff says, you'll only be using them for a short time. Car battery should be okay for the time you need them too (It'll be fully charged after the long trip to the campsite ).

Best to carry a foot pump too though, for late night top-ups, or in case the electric one fails.

Also, for anyone with kids of suitable age, I reckon pumping up the airbeds with a footpump is the best way of giving them something important to do, while keeping them out of the way while the tent is bing erected

I don't rate them. I borowed one from a friend and it took 25 minutes to blow a double air bed up.Noisy to use and the added pollution not welcome by fellow campers especially on hot summer days when leaving the cars engine running

I always use a hand pump it takes 5 mins max and gets the old heart pumping.

Anyway the kids love that job now.....

I bought a Coleman one last year, it blows my double airbed up in 1 minute flat, so the noise is not really a problem. It doesn't drain the battery that much, as it's only like having the fan on in the car, and has no heater element to drain the battery.

A friend bought a rechargeable Coleman model, and that was really quiet.

I took the personal recommendationa of a helpful man in the shop (Outdoor World) and was not disappointed with the Gelert Rechargeable at £20. At first I was worried of running out of charge before completing the job but no worries there. Inflated Coleman Double and large sofa bed in no time. Also made packing away much easier.
