Hi there, we have a cassette toilet on our lunar caravan but am not sure how to measure and dilute the chemicals that go in.  Has antbody got a quick and easy way of doing this. Cheers!!!!   17

I always put it in via the bowl although this is not supposed to be the approved method !! Have had no lip seal problems and have had several cassette loos since they first came out.

I pump a little water into the open trapped bowl first and just carefully tip in about a cup full or less in cold weather and then flush the loo a couple of times to dilute the blue stuff (Elsan thick blue is the preferred one)

The cap of the emptying tube on our cassette is a measure for the 'blue' - it is marked inside with various volumes.  I put the recommended volume of blue in the tank (down the emptying tube - I tried putting it in through the bowl, but made a right mess!), using the guide given on the bottle to work out how much to use (tank volume is in the unit's manual).  I then rinse the cap and dilute the blue with a couple of litres of water - at the moment, I use the fire bucket, but I have a watering can on my shopping list so that I can use it for this purpose, and for filling the flush tank.

Use the cap as a measure - as Scampi says. Take note of what it says on the side of the bottle as different makes have different quantities required. Add the amount to cassette having removed it from van compartment and add a litre or two of water (I use a bucket and a litre jug).

If using pink fragrancer, put it in the clean water tank access (on newer vans this may be a separate locked opening above the cassette locker, on slightly older vans its a fold-out filler cap inside the main cassette locker). Again use the amount stated on the bottle and top up (perhaps 6 to 10 litres depending on model) with clean water.

I like the Elsan chemicals too. They are very concentrated and a bottle gose much further than most other makes.

Job's a good un!

Jon

I see know one metioning the use of elsan/ aquachem green toilet fluids, Unlike the standard type they are fully biodegradable. They also do not contain any nasties like formaldehyde (has been linked to cancer).

ALways think about what impact your actions have on the environment and others and the world will be a better place.

We have gone over to using the sachets, more eco friendly , lighter weight to carry and dead easy to use. Just drop one through the "hatch" and add some water to dissolve.  Downside is they cost more than the liquid.

Now while I happily leave hubby to deal with all things loo related, apart from the washroom cleaning bits, I do know that the stuff we use have their own measure in the top bit where you just turn it upside down, (making sure the lids screwed on tightly of course - ooh, what a mess that could make), and when it goes back the other way, the measuring bit's all ready to go!

After seeing many threads raving how good that Fenwick biodegradeable stuff was on here, I did try to convince him that the would be worth giving it a go as it does both the waste and top tank all with the one liquid, but guess what he went and bought when the blue one ran out? Yep, more blue stuff!!! Although actually, come to think of it he did say this one was green! Wonder if that means it's environmentally friendly too? Did actually notice that the loo developed an odd pong at one point that we've never had before using the bog standard, (sorry for the pun), blue stuff! Coincindence? Btw, we do only use the cassette loo for 'number ones' of course! And hubby empties it regularly - once a year's right yeah? JOKING!!!! LOL
