Yippee!!  We have just taken delivery of our new Cadac, once again an excellent service from Riversway Leisure and with the VAT knocked of for Jersey it cost £102.09 plus £12.77 for ParcelForce 3 day delivery.

Anyway I need a little bit of advice please, we intend to use the Cadac to do most of the cooking outside whilst on holiday as I am adament I don't want smelly 'fry ups' in the 'van! However if the weather is not good enough is it safe to use it in the awning?

TIA

Well I did, the first time I used it I did a BBQ and the fat from the burgers etc lit up and I had the missus worried when the flames were about 2ft out of the Cadac all under the awning  Well I thought it was funny, everyone else was a bit worried.

Does brilliant pancakes though !

As Tiberious says we have used it in the awning and it was great for stirfrys and pancakes in fact anything cooked in the skottle was fine but wouldnt recommend anything that has a high fat content and is cooked on the grill if using inside the awning.  I must admit I had a damp bath towel at the ready for any emergency.

A piece of advise we had from another member was "If you're getting flare ups from a Cadac, you've got too much heat underneath it.
I find the best heat is found by backing the gas right off until you hear the gas jet start to whistle. At that point you get perfect cooking heat with no burning"

We are tent campers but often use our Cadac on the porch area of our tent. (1.5mx3m) Your awning is probably a lot bigger than that. We fell in love with Cadacs when we were staying on a site near Oxford which is popular with Dutch caravaners. They do all there cooking outdoors on Cadacs and if the weather gets bad they just zipped the sides into there awnings and carried on cooking. Just keep it in the middle of your awning so the fat doesnt splatter the walls and you will be fine.

Just looked at that one, it's not the same as the one we bought from Riversway, Towsure quote £145.50 for that and with VAT removed plus carriage it would still cost more than we paid.  Towsure delivery is nowhere near as efficient as Riversway.

Thanks everyone for your tips, we will take them all on board especially the wet bath towel.  We will mainly use the non stick grill top and the skottle, don't really fancy trying to BBQ in the awning.

Only another 5 weeks and 2 days before I get to try it

Just took delivery of a Cadac Carri chef deluxe from Riversway very effecient.

Tried the BBQ and found the fat pan etc got covered, all be it I think I had the heat too high - 2ft flames, oh eck!!!!. Does anyone fill the fat pan with water to ease in the cleaning.

Also does anyone actually use it on full heat for actual cooking ? If so for what.

As I am a virgin 'cadacer' any advice would be appreciated. Cheers

I start off on a high heat setting but once it's up to temp I turn it right down low, and i mean low, with the lid on mostly.
