Just noticed an empty 2.5kg butane calor gas bottle on ebay if anyone is looking for one.  It's at Fareham & the auction finishes at 2.20pm today.

ps - I'm not the seller

Oh i wish we could at ours Magnolia  We have been after a 7kg one for nearly a year now to fit in our caravan locker (we have a 15kg one) but they never have that size in and i begrudge paying nearly £30 for one from the nearest calor gas shop!!

Why not use Flogas the refill are cheaper than calor. If you don't have a cylinder to refill they charge £23.50 but try the local tip you can usually find an empty for a couple of quid.

For anyone looking for empty gas bottles best place is your local tip you can usually ask the person  in charge and pick one up for next to nothing then take it to your local gas retailer ie petrol station.....and exchange it for a refill they can even exchange it for a different size. By far the easiest and cheapest way to pick up a gas bottle.....

Tried getting one at the tip and they said that they're not allowed to sell them on and have to return them to the 'proper' place.

I want to get a smaller 904 bottle for our trips but they are very expensive to 'buy' and also to refill, but the space it would save would be worth it.  Trouble is I don't want to trade in the 5k bottle as we need it for the BBQ at home.

How do I find an army store, looked at yell.com but only came up with army barracks!

Big problem is that the less expensive gas has a different sized reg to calor - although majority of the cheaper brands have the same sized reg. and will usually take each others bottles.  Calor will only accept calor bottles.
Unfortunately Calor had cornered the Camping market (along with Campingaz) long before many of the other brands were around.    It was only in the late 70s early eighties, that the portable gas fire - hence the gas cylinders - became popular.

We use Flogas 7kg from our local camping shop. £13 and no deposit for the cylinder. The regulator cost £5. As for availability the Flogas website gives details of their suppliers and it is fairly comprehensive although only a fraction of Calors network. The more people that switch to these smaller brands then the more chance there is that Calor will review their "deposit" charges.

now a lot of places will only swop like for like - I had a 4.5 butane empty and preferred propane but they weren't allowed to swop it as they have to account for them when calor collect??? Can still pick up an empty at our tip though - I think it depends on who's working though..

I have a couple of 7 kg Flogas bottles & also a 7 kg Calor (empty) gas bottle & the regulator fits all. When I got my Flogas bottles I wasn't charged any deposit either.
